What We Believe

Here at Cru we are all about the gospel. Below is a brief rundown of what that means. For an extended theological look at our beliefs, check out our Statement of Faith.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is God's written word to mankind. All 66 books, penned by dozens of different authors through the Holy Spirit, spanning over the course of thousands of years, tells us the story of God pursuing a relationship with His people.

God

God is one in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. He created everything and is actively involved in all things. God is holy and perfect and in His love he created you and me.

Mankind

God created mankind in His image so that we can have a relationship with Him. But though our stubborn self-will we've gone our own way. This is called sin. We've traded what God wanted for us for what we want for ourselves. God is holy and perfect but through our sin we are broken and imperfect. We are spiritually dead, unable to have a relationship with God through our own merit, and deserving of God's justice and eternal separation.

Christ

But the story doesn't end there. God sent His Son Jesus, to live a sinless life (that we couldn't live), had a perfect relationship with God the Father (that we couldn't do), and took on our sins so that He took on the punishment and justice of God's wrath (that we deserve), and not only that but three days later he rose from the dead (which, you guessed it, we can't do either ). He ascended shortly thereafter and now sits at the right hand of God the Father.

Our Response

Because Jesus took on the sins of all mankind, that means He died for you, me and the entire world. The punishment that we deserve, Jesus took on Himself.

You know what this means? This means that we through Christ's atoning sacrifice we can have a relationship with God!

We do this through faith. We believe or "trust" that God has paid the penalty for our sins through His Son Jesus and through His power, turn from our sinful ways. It's not perfection, but an ever-growing, ever-deepening desire to love and follow God through Jesus Christ.
